Though not the most common mounting location for a towel bar, it can still be mounted in shower. However, there are some things to consider before you make a final decision. First, the shower should be big enough to comfortably hold a towel bar without allowing the towel to get wet. In many cases, a towel bar will be mounted opposite the shower fitting and shower head. Depending on the actual design space of your shower, this could vary. It is generally recommended that a towel bar only be mounted in a larger walk-in shower or something similar. If the shower is too small, your towel will inevitably get wet or unusable. Towel bars in a shower can be used to hold washcloths, bath towels and everything in between.
Mounting a Towel Bar
When mounting a towel bar in your shower, you should consider the following:
- Rusting - Always be conscious about what has the potential to rust if used in your shower on a regular basis. If a towel bar is used in your shower, consider stainless steel, as it is extremely resistant to rust. Solid brass is also a rust-resistant material.
- Comfort of the Shower Area - A towel bar should not be installed in a shower if the towel bar size is in the way of your comfort or safety. A protruding shower bar can cause unintended injuries, and if it limits the space in the shower, comfort can be compromised.
- Grab Bars - Because a towel bar may serve to hinder the comfort or safety in a bathroom rather than improve it in some cases, consider a grab bar instead. Grab bars are great for functional and safety purposes, doubling as a towel bar if need be. For a smaller towel holding solution, you may also want to consider bathroom hooks, which serve the same purpose as towel bars.
- On the Shower Door - Mounting a towel bar on a shower door will give a dedicated place to your bath towel, while simultaneously serving as a convenient handle to your shower door. This can be mounted on either the inside or the outside of the shower. This will depend on your specific shower design.
