How to Determine the Correct Bathroom Mirror Size

A bathroom m mirror is one of the most important fixtures for your bathroom design as a whole. There are several different styles of bathroom mirrors, all of which serve a specific purpose and function. Depending on the situation, bathroom mirrors need to fit certain size guidelines in order to be used effectively and comfortably. This guide will go over how you can determine the correct bathroom mirror size for your new bathroom mirror.

Bathroom Vanity Mirrors

For your bathroom vanity, you need a high quality bathroom mirror to provide visibility and comfort to the area. There are few things you want to make sure of before you implement a bathroom vanity mirror of your choosing, however. First of all, the bathroom mirror needs to be the proper width. In general, the width of a bathroom vanity mirror should be the same width as the bathroom vanity itself. This will depend on the type of vanity you have, with several factors including the shape, mounting type and height.

In some cases, you will want your bathroom vanity to be shorter than the bathroom vanity. For example, if your bathroom vanity is on the longer side, simply choose a mirror that is about the same width as the sink. If the mirror is too large, it can get a bit overwhelming for the bathroom design.

Single Bathroom Vanities

Depending on the type of single bathroom vanity you have, the size could vary. In general, the average width of a single bathroom vanity will fall between 30” and 48”. Whatever length your single bathroom vanity measures, your bathroom mirror must be the same width if you want a cohesive vanity area design. There are some exceptions, but you can’t go wrong following this general rule.

Double Bathroom Vanities

Much like a single bathroom vanity, your double bathroom vanity mirror should match the width of the bathroom vanity. The average width of a double bathroom vanity will measure from 60” to 72”. You definitely want one bathroom mirror for your double bathroom vanity instead of two separate ones. Two separate mirrors will break up the design and make it look a bit disorganized or uncomfortable.

Bathroom Vanity Mirror Shapes

Because bathroom vanity mirrors can be shaped differently, the measurements may be a bit different from mirror to mirror. If the bathroom mirror is rectangular or square, it is easy to measure it to fit perfectly with your bathroom vanity. If you want a round bathroom mirror instead, measure it from end to end. This is also fairly easy to do, as long as the measurements are made correctly.

However, there are other mirror shapes that can be considered as well. Some of these bathroom mirror shapes are a bit more abstract, making them harder to measure appropriately. This can include any asymmetrical shape that does not have a very reliable way to measure it. If this is the case for you, measure this bathroom mirror from end to end horizontally as best you can. Abstract or asymmetrical shapes are hard to measure up to a standard bathroom vanity, so take your time to make the correct measurements.

Bathroom Mirror Height

In terms of the height of a bathroom mirror, there is a bit more room for flexibility. However, you should still follow some basic guidelines for the optimal bathroom mirror size. The average height of a bathroom mirror will be between 30” and 36” tall. This general height range will provide you with the space you need for a high quality reflection as well as the perfect amount of visibility. Depending on your vanity or your overall bathroom design, your mirror can be shorter or taller.

Other Types of Bathroom Mirrors

Although bathroom vanity mirrors are typically the most important mirrors in a bathroom, other mirrors are also great additions to a bathroom design. Each of these mirrors will serve different purposes in a bathroom design, so it is important to include the correct measurements. Here are some of the most common bathroom mirrors included in bathroom designs.

Floor Mirrors

Floor mirrors can come in a variety of different sizes due to the versatility of the fixture. Because a floor mirror is typically used to give you a full body reflection, it will be one of the tallest mirrors in your design. Floor mirrors can measure up to 68” in height and 32” in width. They can be larger or smaller in size depending on what you need the mirror for.

Wall Mirrors

If you plan on including a bathroom mirror other than your bathroom vanity mirror, a wall mirror can be a great option. Wall mirrors can measure virtually any size due to how many situations they are used for. There are no average dimensions for wall mirrors due to the vast amount of shapes and designs available. As a general rule, you do not want your wall mirror to take up too much of your wall. A wall mirror that takes up 55-70% of the wall will typically be the best route to go.

Magnifying Makeup Mirrors

As some of the smallest mirrors in a bathroom design, magnifying makeup mirrors are generally installed on a wall or countertop. In general, the length of a magnifying mirror will not exceed 12”. In height, the same can be said. These mirrors are meant to be used for close up tasks while being convenient to place. The mirror should be big enough to give you a good reflection while being small enough to make it easy to install.
