Installing a Self-Rimming Bathroom Sink
Step 1
Choose a location for the installation. Make sure that the location in mind can accommodate the weight of the sink and provide a stable surface. This is important for the longevity of the design, saving money for you in the future. Most bathroom countertop materials can accommodate a self-rimming bathroom sink. However, it is a good idea to check that your surface will easily accommodate your sink.Step 2
Cut a hole for the self-rimming bathroom sink. The measurements for the hole should be perfect for the installation to make sure the sink sits comfortably and stabilized. The way a hole should be cut depends on the material of the countertop. The dimensions and cutting process will be detailed in the instructions for each different sink.Step 3
Apply a sealant to the underside of the rim of the self-rimming bathroom sink. This can be a plumber's putty or a similar product that will seal the rim of the sink to the countertop and keep the sink in place. After the sink is set, apply a bead of caulk around the rim of the sink.Step 4
Place the sink in the cut out hole. Do this slowly and carefully to ensure the sink is exactly where you want it to be. After the sink is placed in the cut out hole, clean the sink off if any putty or sealant got into any areas where it should not be.Step 5
Secure any hardware from underneath the sink, such as washers, lug nuts or any similar mounting hardware. This will include the hardware for the drain and faucet. Because each self-rimming bathroom sink is slightly different, the hardware will be different based on the specific model.Step 5
Install the faucet. After the sink is secure and installed properly, you can now install the faucet into the faucet holes of the sink. If the self-rimmed bathroom sink does not have faucet holes, prepare for a countertop mounted or wall mounted faucet installation.Note* The self-rimming bathroom sink does not have to be set in place before the hardware is secured to the sink. Based on how you want to install your self-rimming bathroom sink, you do not have to set the sink until the hardware is mostly secured to the underside of the sink.
