Find the Perfect Luxury Small Bathroom Sinks

A stylish bathroom sink could brighten up a small bathroom and help create much needed additional space for the bathroom. This space can be used for storage space, to accommodate additional bathroom furniture, or solely to make the bathroom feel bigger and more comfortable. Whether you need a small wall mount bathroom sink, a vessel sink or an undermount sink for your next project, you’ll be able to find the perfect sink on ModoBath.com.

How to Determine if you Need a Small Bathroom Sink

The average bathroom size is typically between 36 and 40 square feet. A bathroom that falls into that range or larger can usually accommodate larger bathroom sinks and furniture, though there are a few exceptions such as if that bathroom needs to be used by multiple people at the same time, which is discussed in the next section. A small bathroom sink will likely be ideal for any bathroom smaller than 36 square feet or any bathroom that is tight on space due having an odd shape or odd configuration with doors and windows. Most powder rooms and guest bathrooms will fall in the definition of a small bathroom. Incorporating a sink that fits well within the dimensions of the bathroom will make the bathroom look more spacious and feel more comfortable. These sinks are perfect for these such small spaces.

Incorporating Multiple Sinks for Small Bathrooms in your Design

A larger bathroom such as a master bathroom or a bathroom in a commercial space such as an office building or a restaurant may also require sinks for small bathrooms. In this case, the use of multiple smaller bathroom sinks will allow you to allocate more space. In a master bathroom, that space can be used to create additional counter space or space for comfortable bathroom furniture such a bathroom stool or decorative hamper. In a commercial setting, the additional space can be used to accommodate more guests in the bathroom. Narrow bathroom sinks are quite versatile and can be incorporate into a larger bathroom in pairs to create an aesthetically pleasing bathroom.

Planning for a Small Bathroom Sink

  • Step 1: Measure the all of the walls in your bathroom. Assuming your bathroom has a rectangular shape, multiple the length of the longest wall with the shortest wall to get the area of the bathroom. If the bathroom is less than 36 feet and is only meant to accommodate one person then it is a good candidate for a small bathroom sink.
  • Step 2: Decide along which wall of the bathroom to install the bathroom sink. In this step, it is important to consider where the doors and windows of the bathroom are located and to also decide on the other fixtures that you will be including in your bathroom. The bathroom will definitely need a toilet but you may also choose to have a small shower, bathtub, bathroom vanity or countertop. The choice of fixtures will determine the size of the bathroom sink that you can use along with the type of bathroom sink such as a vessel, wall-mount, pedestal or undermount small bathroom sink.
  • Step 3: Note the measurement of the wall where you are planning to install the bathroom sink. Determine if there will be any additional fixtures alongside the wall. Also, if the bathroom door opens inwards, you will need to consider the projection. From these dimensions, you need to ensure a minimum recommended distance of 3 inches on either side of the sink from the closest fixtures or doors. For tiny bathrooms, you might be forced to only have 1 inch on either side or consider using a tiny bathroom sink that is less than 15”.
  • Step 4: From step 3, you will now have the total length that will help you determine the size of the bathroom sink. For instance, if you have 25” in space, you should subtract 3” from either side leaving you with a recommended bathroom sink length of 19”.
  • Step 5: Now that you have narrowed down the length of the sink, it is time to determine the depth or front-to-back dimension of the sink. Most narrow bathroom sinks have a depth of 18” or less. Typically, manufacturers produce narrow bathroom sinks that have common proportions between the length and width, that are suitable for most bathrooms. However, if your bathroom is tight on space, it is important to note the protrusion from the wall. Keeping in mind that the sink will likely be 18” or less and most users will need an average of 18” to use the bathroom comfortably, you need to ensure that you have at least 36” of space between the two walls or the wall and any other fixture. If you have less than 36”, you will need to determine that length and subtract 18” (the comfortable space for a user) which will give you the depth of the bathroom sink that you need. For instance, if you have 30” of space, you would subtract 18”, which leaves you with 12” and accordingly you would need a small bathroom sink that has a depth of 12” or less.
  • Step 6: Determine the installation type of the bathroom sink. In terms of space saving, the best bathroom sink for a small bathroom is a wall mount bathroom sink which would not only make the bathroom feel more spacious, it will also give you some storage space underneath the sink. However, small vessel bathroom sinks, pedestal or undermount bathroom sinks can also work very well in small spaces if the bathroom is designed properly.
  • Types of Small Bathroom Sinks

    Small Wall Mount Bathroom Sinks

Wall mount bathroom sinks are the perfect sink for small spaces. Mounting your sink will give you much needed additional space underneath your sink as well as make your bathroom look bigger. You could consider several types of small floating bathroom sinks such as a corner sink or an integrated sink that may have a built-in towel bar. Floating bathroom sinks are easy to install and can be very attractive in any bathroom.

    Small Pedestal Bathroom Sinks

Pedestal bathroom sinks have all of the benefits of a wall mount sink except that the pedestal diminishes the available space underneath the sink. Pedestal sinks do not need to be mounted to the wall, though, mounting it or adding silicon for added security is considered best practice. The ease of installation makes pedestal bathroom sinks excellent options for many bathrooms. Moreover, the design of the pedestal especially in vintage bathroom sinks can be very appealing.

    Small Vessel Bathroom Sinks

Vessel bathroom sinks are typically the most design oriented type of bathroom sink, however, they may be difficult to incorporate in a small space. A small vessel bathroom sink will require either a countertop or a bathroom vanity. Adding these additional fixtures will compromise some of the space, however, if your small bathroom is on the slightly larger size, counter top bathroom sinks can bring a one of a kind design to the bathroom. For a guest bathroom, it may definitely be worth incorporating a designer bathroom sink to impress your guests.

    Small Undermount Bathroom Sinks

Undermount bathroom sinks provide a seamless, integrated design for a bathroom, however, they may not be the best choice for a small bathroom. Similar to vessel sinks, you will need a bathroom vanity or countertop to install an undermount bathroom sink. Most undermount bathroom sinks are relatively simple in design and they are excellent choices for larger, minimalist bathrooms, yet the requirement of additional furniture and limited design appeal do not make these sinks a great choice for a small bathroom.
