Especially those that are specifically designed for certain areas or locations. Below are the main types of grab bars that you can find and implement into your bathroom design.

Straight Grab Bars

For example, the most common place for a straight grab bar will be on any flat wall or surface. In addition, they can be installed essentially anywhere in your bathroom. If you are working in a corner, consider putting on a straight grab bar on each wall of the corner. This same line of thinking can be applied to any other situation in which you may need a grab bar as well. They are extremely versatile and very useful in terms of safety. Of course, if you are working with a commercial bathroom or any other bathroom that will be accommodating individuals with disabilities, you will need to mount your straight grab bar in accordance with ADA compliant regulations.

Corner Grab Bars

If you are working specifically with a corner of your bathroom, a corner grab bar is exactly what you should be looking to implement. They designed for installation in a corner. Corner grab bars wrap around a corner in order to properly accommodate anybody who may need to use it. They are perfect for single corners. However, they are extremely effective if you need grab bars in multiple corners of your design.

A perfect example of this is a shower area. Especially a walk-in or roll-in shower. Consider the installation of a corner grab bar in two corners of your shower or bathtub area in accordance with ADA compliant regulations. This is one of the best ways to maximize comfort and accessibility in areas of your bathroom.

Shower Grab Bars (L-Shaped)

In a shower area, specific types of grab bars may be more effective than others. With that being said, many different types of grab bars will have their place in a shower. This gives an individual access to both a vertical bar and a horizontal bar.

Hand Grips

This makes them great for any small spaces, which is great for any small bathrooms such as guest bathrooms.

Different Angles and Shapes

When thinking of a grab bar, many people think of just a straight grab bar mounted either horizontally or vertically on the wall. However, grab bars can be uniquely shaped and designed to fit in a variety of different situations. For example, previously mentioned shapes include the “L” shaped grab bars that are used in corners or showers. Additional shapes and angles can also be used as well. There are grab bars angled at 45 degrees that will work in a shower or bathtub area. This gives you a unique and effective grip style that works in many different areas. There are also round grab bars and rectangular grab bars. This will ultimately come down to personal preference and how your hands feel on the bar.

Installing a Grab Bar

A grab bar is installed using one of two main installation methods. The first, and most traditional way to install a grab bar, is through a hardware installation. This is a very secure and safe installation method for a grab bar. There are several things to take into consideration before installing the grab bar however. For example, make sure your grab bar is mounted on a solid surface. In addition, make sure the screws are being installed on a solid surface as well.

This can be a little difficult depending on the area in which you need to install it. The other installation type will be a self-adhesive installation. This installation process is quick and easy, making it very appealing. You do need to make sure that your self-adhesive grab bar can hold 250 pounds, in accordance with ADA compliance regulations. Both of these installation methods are viable, so choose the method you are most comfortable with.

Common Grab Bar Finishes

Grab bars are very similar to other types of bathroom accessories in terms of the most common finishes they use. For example, one of the most common finishes you will find in a grab bar is chrome. This can be either your standard chrome or polished chrome, both of which are very common. Another elegant finish is the matte finish. Metallic finishes are generally easy to clean and maintain, making them perfect for any area of your bathroom.
